The following are some questions that you should ask yourself, and also tell the guide before booking so that he will know a little about your fishing expertise. This will help you, and the guide to a more enjoyable day on the water.

1. What kind of angler am I? Are you a beginner, novice, average, above average or advanced fisherman.

2. How accurate is my casting ability? I think this is one of the most important questions you can ask yourself. Many times while fishing the Lagoon, the guide is poling you around and will point out fish at 1 o'clock (Example) and 40 feet in front of you. Being able to put a decent cast in the range of the fish will make your life more enjoyable on the water. Tell the guide if your not a good caster, he can then put the boat in the direction that you are comfortable with and make a better cast.

3. What type of fishing are you looking for? Fly fishing, Live bait fishing, sight fishing.

4. What species of fish would you like to target the most? Redfish is the most common fish, and Sea Trout. However, on good days and with the right captain, you can target Snook, and Tarpon.

5. How many people are in your party? Generally, guides like to take a couple people, but some can take an additional person or two, but you will be charged more.

6. How long would you like to be out on the water? Half day, three quarter day or full day.

7. Are you looking to keep the fish that you catch for dinner? If so, then telling the guide that you would rather find slot reds, and keeper trout is a must.

8. Is meeting at the launching pad for the boat before sunrise an option? Or do you need to meet the guide and follow them to the boat ramp?

9. Night time snook fishing? Snook feed more during the night, so going after them at the port is EXCITING!!!

10. Are you interested more in learning about fishing and becoming a better fisherman?

11. Will your children be with you on the boat?

FAQ's

Q: What should I bring with me when going fishing with a Mosquito Lagoon Guide?

A: Sunscreen, Polarized sunglasses, Food and Drinks. All fishing tackle and licenses are provided by the Captain, as well as the finest fishing equipment on the market. If you would like to bring your rod, please contact the Captain and tell him that you are bringing your own equipment. During the summer, please make sure that you bring plenty of fluids. The Captain has cooler with Ice for all drinks that you can bring and need.

Q: Should I tip the Captain?

A: .Tips are customary for guides, and of course are always appreciated. Your tip amount should be based on the following: Did the Captain work hard to find fish for you? Did he offer advice or help to make your catching more successful? Did you enjoy yourself? The important thing to remember is that, as the old adage goes, "it's called fishing, not catching." The guide's job is to try to find fish for you, regardless of conditions, and to make it an enjoyable experience. Your tip should be based on how hard he has worked for you, not the number of fish caught. Consider this and make a tip in the amount you see fit.

Q: What should I expect on a good day?

A: Weather is the most determining factor when fishing the Lagoon. Windy days make sight fishing hard for the best Guides out there. On calm days, catching double digit Redfish is not uncommon. During the summer months, large redfish school up for breeding, and you have many opportunities to catch 30+ pound Redfish.

Q: What is your cancellation policy?

A: A deposit ensures we will be gainfully employed for your charter date(s). Policy is: All deposits received are held if scheduled trip is canceled without a 10 day verbal telephone notice. No exceptions. Deposits for charters that are canceled 10 days in advance or better will be credited toward a trip within one year from original departure date.
